I'm Hungry

My Little Sister – entire boxes of cherry tomatoes, sweet peppers, bananas, soup, spaghetti with meatballs.
Road Trips – salt and vinegar Pringles, a Dairy Queen soft serve twist in a cone, Cracker Barrel breakfast, Cinnabuns, Mcdonald’s Big and Tasty burger with fries.
Yankee Games – Mamma’s roasted turkey, mozzarella and roasted red pepper heros, Cracker Jacks, peanuts in the shell, frozen lemonade, Nathan’s hot dogs.
Astoria Park – Snapple iced tea, a sandwich with turkey, American cheese, lettuce, tomato and mustard on a roll with Doritos…put inside to add some crunch.
Vickies House – double stuff Oreos with a mug of milk, chips and salsa, Cheese-Nips, green tea with honey, Honey Bunches of Oats cereal.
Finals – bad free coffee from the Monroe Library, greasy late night fast food, excess sugar, caffeine in any form.
Archbishop Molloy High School – wannabe McDonalds French fries, huge chewy-to-the-point-of-being-mushy chocolate chip cookies.
My Dad – grilled and specially glazed shrimp, tortillas with Mexican crumbly cheese, skirt steak, Chilaquiles, dark chocolate, yogurt with almonds, honey and cinnamon.
Christmas – homemade macaroni and cheese, baked ham, cookies and milk, homemade coffee cake, mini bagels and cream cheese.
Summer – iced tea, barbeque, pasta salad, soft serve ice cream from the Mr. Softee ice cream truck, Tomatoes, fresh raspberries, strawberries and blueberries off the vine.
Dorms – Easy Mac, Ramen Noodles, Vitamin Water, leftovers.
My Stepdad - homemade marinara sauce, homemade pizza, grilled eggplant parmesan.
Sundays – homefries, vegetable omelet, French toast on challah bread, homemade blueberry or banana-walnut pancakes, orange juice and coffee.
My best friend Lauren – tuna fish with cheddar cheese melted on top in a bowl, avocado scrambled with egg to make a brownish mushy substance, frozen mango pieces, Dunkin Donuts coffee, meat of any kind.
Bryant Park – decadant Wichcraft hot chocolate and salty popcorn.
3:00am on a Saturday Night – Fnm’s cheese fries, Boot pizza, sour cream and onion chips from the vending machine.
Esopus Camps– grilled cheese, pasta with meat sauce, garlic bread, Oreos and peanut butter, chocolate milk in a paper milk carton, French toast sticks, bug juice aka fruit punch.
Winter – mysterious Crockpot meals, tomato soup, mashed potatoes.
Nonna – leftovers that have been frozen for months, old cold-cuts, scotch.
September – fresh gala apples, apple cider, homemade apple sauce.

  1. I liked how for every which thing you had a description of food. It was interesting to see the comparison. Though I do think it needed something better to tie the ending.

  2. this is yummy and fun to read. i keep reading each section to try to imagine your state of mind and sense of taste at each location or event. i am also now thinking of my own sense of nostalgia for food items, which i think is the point.

  4. I like how you use certain foods to describe members of your family. You basically give us a peek into their personality by just giving us their favorite food types.

  5. I really liked the form of this piece, it was almost like a menu. This really evokes the senses and it's neat how you associate these foods with certain people/places. You should definitely add more, and maybe even amp up the form by playing with the order (this could be autobiographical/time-line).
